About Legionary Lessons

Centurions, Legionaries, and Visitors, Primus Pilus, Greetings!

The Legionary Lessons are letters to my grandson, Nathaniel ('Nathan') who was the very first registered Legionary in the order - . Legionaries are those who are under the age of 18. At the time these epistles were undertaken, Nathan was turning eight years old and lived some distance away. Originally they were mailed to Nathan, now, week-by-week, they are sent by email to him via my daughter. These letters are published on the Forum Legionaries.blogspot.com. The scripture selections for the most part are like those of the traditional and ancient readings recorded in the Book of Common Prayer, as are the collect prayers, whose source is 6th century Rome and earlier. I have reworded the collect prayers so that Nathan could better grasp their meaning. I recognize that in so doing, exact meanings may be lost, but pray that I have retained the general sense of the prayer. I use a paraphase Bible for contemporary language and reading level, from www.BibleGateway.com . I've begun placing the reading ease and reading level below both the scripture selection and the lesson. The exercises are evolving, but are based on simple tasks that I have used for years as a youth minister working with kids from pre-school up. Also when appropriate, I have suggested a hymn.

Any and all may print lessons and use them freely for religious purposes as they wish, but may not sell them, and if further distributed, they must be original.

pax Christi,

The Reverend Mark Carroll
