Joannicius - Legionnaire 4 November [846] |
The Father is my hope, the Son is my refuge, the Holy Spirit is my protection*
Tradition holds that Joannicius of was a shepherd as a boy. During his youth he was drafted into Rome's Army and served with distinction for six years.
Upon discharge he sought a religious life, first in a monastery then in seclusion, and became renown for his deeds.
He finally settled in the Antidiev monastery at Mount Olympus and dwelt there until his death on November 4, 846, at the age of 94. He is known for his defense of use of Icons in the Church.
