Love your neighbor as yourself

BIBLE STORY
****Matthew 22:34****

When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Hmyn: Jesus Loves Me This I Know

LESSON
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and Peace be with you Christ's Soldier!

In our story today, we heard Jesus tell the men the greatest laws. The first is that we are to love God. He told us how too. We should love him with all our heart. We should love him with all our soul. We should love him with all of our mind. And finally, we should love him with all or our strength. That is a whole lot of love! That is more love than we have by ourselves. How can we love God that much? Well, we can ask Jesus to help us. Jesus will send the Holy Ghost to all his children. The Holy Ghost lives in our souls. He can help us to love God the right way.

Then he told the men there was a second law. This law is almost as important as the first one. This law is to love our neighbor. Well, who is our neighbor? Is it only the people on your street? No, it is everyone we meet. They are our neighbors, because God made them. OK then, how should we love them. Should we love them like we do God? No! That would be a sin. We must love God more than anyone else. We are told to love our neighbors like we love ourselves. Now there is a rule for this. It is the "Golden Rule." It says we should "Do for others, the way we want others to do for us." Now that is an easy rule to remember, isn't it?

Goodbye, and may God, the Father, and the Son and the Holy Ghost bless you, your family, and your friends!
